Dynamic speech compressor is an audio signal processing operation that reduces the volume of loud sounds or amplifies quiet sounds, therefore reducing or compressing an audio signal’s dynamic range. Compression is commonly used in sound recording and reproduction, broadcasting, hearing aid, live sound reinforcement, and in some instrument amplifiers. There are two types of compression, downward and upward.

This dynamic compressor with audio preamplifier features a sophisticated multi-stage design for professional audio processing. Initially, the input signal enters through J1, where C1 provides AC coupling while blocking DC components.
The first stage utilizes Q1, a 2N3904 transistor configured as a common emitter amplifier. Meanwhile, R1 and R3 establish proper biasing conditions, while R5 sets the collector load. Subsequently, C4 couples the amplified signal to the next stage.
Next, the signal reaches U1, an operational amplifier that provides significant voltage gain. Additionally, R2 and feedback components determine the amplification factor. Furthermore, C3 ensures frequency stability throughout the audio spectrum.
The compression circuit employs D1 and D2 as voltage-controlled elements. Specifically, these diodes create variable resistance based on control voltage levels. Consequently, loud input signals generate higher control voltages, reducing overall gain automatically.
Moreover, the control circuit includes R10, R11, and R12 for precise threshold adjustment. Similarly, C10 and associated components provide attack and release time constants. Meanwhile, VR1 allows manual compression ratio adjustment.
The output stage features additional amplification through carefully selected resistor networks. Subsequently, C16 and C15 provide final AC coupling and filtering. Finally, the processed audio exits through J2, delivering consistent levels regardless of input variations.
Overall, this circuit effectively combines preamplification with Dynamic speech compressor, making it ideal for recording applications.
